We Need to Keep Pushing
The next legislative push for Medicare for All is to allow states to move to single-payer systems. Congressman Kucinich’s amendment would allow this to happen. It passed out of the House Committee of Education and Labor on July 17 in a bipartisan vote of 27 to 19. The amendment would waive provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) that might obstruct states from implementing a single-payer system. Because of the big pharma and big insurance lobby, it has since been stripped from the bill. We can demand that it be reinstated during the reconciliation of the House and Senate bills.
If the US Congress can’t provide universal health care to the people of this nation, than let the states do it. You can send this letter now to your Representatives and Democratic leadership telling them to return the Kucinich amendment to the bill.

We need to keep pushing. Congress will be home for the holiday break through the middle of January. Consider bringing a delegation to the office of your Congress person with the message of support for the Kucinich amendment. Write letters to the Editor. Demonstrate. Let us know your plans.
